PBH Office Relocating

The PBH office is relocating, effective Monday, February 8, 2010. The new address will be 7465 Lancaster Pike, Suite J, 2nd Floor, Hockessin, DE 19707. PBHs phone number, (302) 235-2329, will remain the same, as will all office extension numbers for PBH staff and the fax number.

All donors should make a note of the address change in their records so that all correspondence can continue to reach PBH after this move.

Consumer Website Grows in Popularity in 2009

In 2009, the Fruits & Veggies—More Matters® website received a monthly average of 61,318 visitors, a 23 percent higher average for monthly visits than in 2008. The site,, is becoming more well-known and new features are being added all the time.

New commodities entered the fruit and veggie database in 2009, and even more will make their debut in 2010. Another popular enhancement added to the website in 2009 is the Fruit & Vegetable Blog: Stem & Stalk … Let's Talk where PBH's own Sharese Alston shares her trials, tribulations, and successes surrounding healthy food choices for her family.

The recipe database continues to be one of the most frequently visited areas of the site and PBH is in the process of adding some new recipes that were recently sent in by donors. PBH encourages all donors to submit new recipes for the website. Only recipes with print-quality photos of the completed dish will be considered. There is no recipe limit and the submitting donor will be credited for the recipe on the website. Please send recipes and photos to PBH Communications Specialist Jill LeBrasseur.

PBH's Keeping Moms Informed e-newsletter is distributed bi-weekly and offers hints and tips to Moms for increasing their families' intake of fruits and vegetables. Total opt-in subscribers to the e-newsletter increased to a total of 20,350 recipients in 2009, 19 percent over 2008's subscriber numbers.  PBH encourages donors to sign up for PBH's Keeping Moms Informed e-newsletter and to recommend it to all the Moms they know.

Government, non-profit, and industry sites have increasingly been linking to from their own websites, too. Links to PBH's website at the end of 2009 were 20 percent higher than at the end of 2008. If your company hasn't already added a link from its website to, add one now. To make adding a link easy, a link button and website copy are available for donors.

Comment Period on WIC Food Packages Revisions Ends February First

The Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service is considering revisions to the food packages received by participants in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) that would increase the cash value of vouchers they receive for fruit and vegetable purchases from $8 per month to $10 per month for all women participants. Public comments on the recommended changes are being solicited and must be submitted on or before February 1, 2010 via the Federal e-Rulemaking portal.

As the Department of Agriculture finalizes the WIC Food Package rule, PBH asks that donors, nutrition educators, health advocates, and all concerned citizens consider the following recommendations:

1. Increase the cash-value of the fruit/vegetable voucher for WIC children to $8/month as originally recommended by the Institute of Medicine

2. Increase the cash-value of the fruit/vegetable voucher for fully breastfeeding women to $12/month to incentivize WIC moms to breast feed their babies.

3. Require State WIC Agencies to allow split tender to enable WIC families to maximize the full benefit of their fruit/vegetable vouchers.

PBH encourages donors to log on to the website on or before February 1 and submit these comments and/or their own in favor of increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables available to those participating in this important nutrition program.

For background on the proposed WIC food package revisions, view this PDF. For the complete text of proposed comments, view this sample letter.
