PBH: Helping to Train Tomorrow's Dietitians

In support of Produce for Better Health Foundation's long-standing support of supermarkets, coupled with the close work PBH has done with supermarket dietitians over the last few years, PBH is pleased to announce the 7 Store Tour Training Grant recipients for the collegiate spring 2016 semester. The grant funding is used to encourage enhanced collaboration between grocers and university nutrition and dietetic programs with a specific emphasis on training nutrition and dietetic students to deliver grocery store tours about fruit and vegetables.

These schools and their partnering grocers include:

  • California State University, Fresno, Save Mart
  • Medical City Dietetic Internship Program, Dallas, United Supermarkets
  • Middle Tennessee State University, Kroger
  • The University of Arizona, Fry’s Food Store
  • The University of Southern California, Vons
  • University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Vons, Trader Joe’s, and Sprouts
  • Viterbo University, La Crosse, Hy-Vee

With the addition of these 7 grantees to the 21 previously awarded grantees, there will be more than 500 nutrition/dietetic students trained to conduct store tours .  In addition, more than 6000 consumers will have participated in the store tours: half as fellow college students and half as members of the community.

Grants are limited to no more than $5,000 per internship program per semester. The submission deadline for the 2016 fall semester is April 29, 2016. Encourage your local university nutrition and dietetic program to contact PBH directly at storegrant@pbhfoundation.org for more information.

PBH is accepting submissions for our Supermarket RD of the Year through January 5, 2016. The criteria and submission form are found on the PBHFoundation.org website on the Get Involved page. We were thrilled to recognize dietitians from ShopRite, Meijer, Hannaford Brothers, and Kroger for 2015.

Use of the Fruits & Veggies—More Matters® Logo

Did you know that one of the greatest benefits of your annual support of PBH is use of the Fruits & Veggies—More Matters logo?  According to the 2015 survey of moms who recognize the logo, 53% say they are more likely to purchase a product carrying the logo on pack .  If you’ve already signed the license agreement, all you need to do is email a mock-up of the label for approval to Kristen Stevens, kstevens@pbhfoundation.org – it’s that EASY!  Contact Kristen as well if you would like to become a licensee.  And remember – approved use of the logo helps to qualify your organization as a Champion or Role Model for 2015!
