A Preview of PBH’s 2017 Events & Planned Activities


Consumer Research.  Annual Conference. Social Media Fun. Tools for Industry Use.  These, along with other focus areas, highlight some of PBH’s planned activities for 2017.  All of PBH’s efforts throughout 2017 will provide information and resources the fruit and vegetable industry can leverage to assist with reaching consumers, understanding behaviors of various customer groups, and increasing sales and consumption of fruit and vegetables. 


Consumer Research – PBH will provide key takeaway’s and insights focused on shopping and consumption patterns and behaviors of various consumer groups through the following updated research reports, projected to be issued throughout 2017:

  • Primary Shopper Report – This updated report will help the industry and other consumer influencers to understand primary shoppers’ attitudes and beliefs about fruits and vegetables and how they have changed between 2012 and 2016   This report will also include ideas on sales and communication strategies.  PBH will issue this report by spring 2017.  
  • Dad vs Mom Report – Stemming from PBH’s annual consumer research, this updated report will compare and contrast the attitudes and beliefs related to fruit and vegetable purchases and consumption of Dad’s and Mom’s.  This report is anticipated to be available by summer.

Social Media Fun – PBH will continue to grow and expand our social media footprint on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.  If you haven’t yet participated in one of our monthly Twitter parties, plan to do so and join in on the fun!  The parties are a great way to broaden the reach and engagement of your organization with consumers...and they are free to join!  PBH hosts two parties each month on the first and third Wednesday’s at 4pm EST.  Be sure to keep current with our latest tools, content and social media fun by following and liking our channels!


Annual Conference – With over 10 educational sessions, 30+ hours of 1:1 business exchange appointments, and a fantastic keynote speaker the 2017 PBH Annual Conference: The Consumer Connection is sure to please!  Join over 200 industry leaders April 5-7 at The Omni Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Montelucia and discover first-hand why everyone is buzzing about! 


Tools for Industry Use – In addition to the updated consumer research reports, store tour grants, and the Formula 5 marketing competition, PBH is also planning two updates to our newest resource, Health and Wellness Resource Guide for Fruit and Vegetables.  Stay tuned for more details.

Celebrate National Nutrition Month® in March


The theme for National Nutrition Month® this year is “Put Your Best Fork Forward.”  PBH will support the month and theme with social media posts you can use as is or customize, and a recipe contest on our social media channels – more details to follow.  You can also take advantage of one of our ‘evergreen’ marketing toolkits to celebrate National Nutrition Month® through in-store promotions and displays, or through print and online circulars.  Click here to view all available marketing toolkits.


2017 Annual Conference Educational Sessions


The PBH Annual Conference: The Consumer Connection not only offers the opportunity to network and meet one-on-one with customers, dietitians and colleagues, but it also offers a variety of educational sessions.  In 2017, sessions will be offered for Suppliers to the Industry, RDs/Health Professionals and Foodservice as well as an interactive session on social media marketing.  The following are just a few of the scheduled sessions open to conference attendees. 


  • Getting Social Media Marketing to Deliver on Its Promise
    • An in-depth intermediate level workshop about social media trends, identifying the pros and cons of various platforms, knowing how to best reach key audiences, and how to decide what to simply monitor versus focusing on.
  • Messages that Resonate with Consumers
    • In collaboration with AARP, PBH conducted research to understand messages that may best resonate with consumers.  This session will showcase results to date, next steps, and how the information can be used in your own marketing efforts.
  • Clearing Blurred Lines Within Retail, C-Stores and Foodservice
    • Confused with the ‘Who, What, and Why” of fruit and vegetable purchases within retail, convenience stores and foodservice channels?  You’re not alone!  This session will outline the differences through a discussion on current trends, data and examples.
  • New Food Labeling: Restaurants and Grocery
    • All of the in’s and out’s along with the nuances of the new labeling requirements and laws can be riddled with confusion and frustration.  This session will address the various menu, nutrition and GMO labeling requirements, but also the opportunities these changes present to highlight and promote more fruit and vegetables!
